ICT Courses Summer 2016 – No Fees and qualify for EPV Days!!

ICT courses have no fees as they are fully funded by PDST Technology in Education. As places are limited, a “first come” basis applies.  Applications accepted by email: info@dwec.ie  or  by post to:  ICT Courses, Dublin West Education Centre, Old Blessington Road, Tallaght, Dublin 24. Confirmation of booking and any other correspondence will be sent by email only; please ensure your email address is legible and check your spam/junk mail as mail can go into this folder.

Creating & Using ICT Resources to enhance Literacy and Numeracy

In this revised course for 2016 Emphasis will be placed on participants creating their own teaching and learning resources before exploring useful online resources for literacy, including IWB specific resources and tools. Each module includes opportunity for discussion centered on classroom application and includes specific reference to the use of ICT for literacy, numeracy, assessment and SEN. Finally, the development of safer internet practices and whole school planning for e-learning will be also be prioritised throughout the course.

Using Scratch Programming to Develop Numeracy (PDST/LERO)

This course for 2016 from PDST TiE develops the use of Scratch 2.0 as a programming language in the primary classroom. The course includes a wide range of short classroom practice focused videos demonstrating Scratch being integrated in daily teaching activities at a range of class levels. Each module includes discussion of practical classroom applications of Scratch programming and makes specific reference to the use of Scratch as a teaching tool in developing, supporting and extending children’s application of key mathematical concepts and skills. By means of a range of tutor led group activities, participants will investigate how they might incorporate Scratch across other curricular areas. Finally, other key areas discussed over the duration of the course include the development of safe internet practices in the school environment, finding and selecting good quality teaching material online and planning for e-learning practices in your school.

Using iPads and Online Tools for Literacy and Numeracy     (Participants must have their own/school iPad, no Tablets)

A revamped and revised summer course for 2016 from PDST TiE centered on the purposeful use of tablet technologies, namely the iPad, and how it can be used to support teaching and learning in the Irish primary classroom.
Firstly, teachers will examine the key educational and whole-school considerations in the deployment of iPad technologies through a range of participant led tasks and activities. Participants will explore areas such as developing literacy and numeracy lessons with iPad devices investigating accessibility and SEN practices in Irish classrooms before planning for the possible integration of iPad devices across the wider curriculum. The course will also explore how iPads can be used to develop whole school assessment practices by developing a portfolio of sample teaching and learning resources for all class levels over the week. Finally, the development of safer internet practices and whole school planning for e-learning will be also be prioritised throughout the course.

 Embedding ICT in Teaching, Learning & Assessment

A revamped, practical course for 2016 from PDST TiE introducing teachers at all class levels to ways in which ICT can be easily integrated into daily teaching practices. The course will investigate the use of a range of literacy, numeracy and wider curriculum related websites and resources which can add to active learning in the primary classroom.
Over the duration of the course teachers will be guided through the process of creating a wide range of teaching, learning and assessment based digital resources which they can use in their own classroom.
Other key areas of course content to be discussed and developed include the importance of safer internet practices in the school environment, finding and selecting good quality educational content online, developing whole school assessment practices through the use of ICT and finally planning for e-learning practices to complement current SSE practices in your school.

The Reading and Writing Process using ICT

This summer course for 2016 from PDST TiE will investigate a wide range of easy to use, practical online resources which can build and foster pupils’ skills in reading comprehension, oral language, writing and vocabulary at all class levels. It will also explore how ICT can be used to support and develop key elements of literacy by developing a digital portfolio of sample teaching, learning and assessment resources for all class levels over the week. Each module makes reference to classroom based examples of using ICT to support differentiation so as to cater for our pupils’ varying learning abilities and SEN needs. Other relevant areas discussed during this course include building safer internet practices in my school, integrating technologies in literacy intervention programs as well as planning for e-learning on a whole school level.
